RIOTING AT FUNERAL
EXTRAORDINARY OUTBREAK. Riot and confusion marred the solemn splendour of the military funeral accorded the veteran ex-President Irigoyen at Buenos Aires a few weeks ago. As the cortege was entering the cemetery the coffin slipped off the bier and slid to the ground. Ten persons who were walking near it were injured. There were continued disturbances both during and after the ceremony, and many persons were injured in police charges. Inside the cemetery the crowd smashed the bust on the tomb of one of Napoleon’s officers who later fought in Argentina, and tore down the wireless installation so that the 25 funeral orations were delayed. In the course of their delivery, many persons fainted, including Dr. Irigoyen’a son. Dr. Oyhanarte, the exiled former For«»’i7n Minister, "who was one of the .•qX'akers. delivered a political harangue. He had been arrested on arirval from Montevideo in the morning, but provisionally released. Thousands of people returning from the funeral took part in a riot in the streets. Police charged the crowd, 18 of whom were seriously injured and removed to hospital.
