QUOTA FOR CHEESE NEW ZEALAND’S POSITION BRITISH PRESS COMMENT {By Telegraph—-Presa Association—Uopynubtl LONDON, Dec. I. The Manchester Guardian, dealing with Empire trade, says that inure recently the cry of “Justice for the British "farmer” has grown increasingly, and is incompatible with Britain’s pressure on New Zealand farmers to consent to a voluntary' cheese quota. The ’Milk Marketing Board scheme may be endangered if relatively high prices for British cheese are not obtained, but colonial cheese is an important item of working class diet owing to its cheapness. Restrictions of New Zealand imports is therefore undesirable, and would so shake New Zealand’s economic life that it would mean the end of immigration, and may lead to an ultimate debt default.
