PAPER FORTUNE

HOW IT WAS MADE. U.S.A. SENATE INQUIRY. WASHINGTON, Dec. 1. The Senate stock market committee records to-day disclosed that Harley Clarke, Chicago Utilities operator, had turned a small stake in the cinema business, estimated at 1,000,000 dollars into a 65,000,000 dollar paper fortune within five years. Though only a small projector manufacturing company in 1925, Clarke by 1930 became president of the General Theatres Equipment Company, which controlled the Fox theatre properties. Exchanges of stock and additional investment resulted in his control of a 65,000,000 dollars hold ing in the company. To-day Clarke was not president and the stock was practically worthless.
