DESIRE FOR TREATY. SOME POSSIBLE BENEFITS. LONDON, Nov. 30. The Australian Press Association •orrespondont at Paris says that M. Vass has informed the Commonwealth that France desires to negotiate a trade treaty. The Ministry of Commerce spokesman points out that despite the fact that Australian wheat and butter were subjected to 200 per cent, surtax Australia’s exports to France in 1932 were worth £7,000,000, whereas France’s exports to Australia were onlv £1,200,000. A treaty may enable France to counter the Japanese silk invasion of Australia and give advantage to Australian wool, fruit, and frozen meat in the French markets.
