THE WENDY HUT
OUR CHILDREN’S CORNER
| My Dear Children, — 1 must confess that when I adopted the plan of holding an election to help swell our Xmas cheer fund I felt rather dubious of the success of the plan in view of the straitened circumstances under which everyone to-day lives, and so it is with considerable pleasure I am able to dispel the doubt, and place before you the latest results to hand re our election. The figures stand at the moment in the following order: Electorate. Representative. Voles. Waitotara “Josephine” 48 Up-River “Lady Mabel” 15 Taihape “Brown Wallflower’’ J 3 Bulls “Brier” T0ta1.... 78 The votes recorded this week are made up as follows: For I “Josephine,” Mapcap’s brother, 30; Airs. Alack, J 5. “Lady Alabcl.” > The Duplicate Duke’s Sweetheart, 12; Queen Aladge, 3. “Brown Wallflower/’ no additional. “Brier,’’ Fido, 3. The foregoing therefore i shows 63 votes recorded in favour of the candidates already nominated to represent their districts and our Xmas cheer fund is in credit to the I extent of 6s 6d. To-day’s list of candidates shows, too, the addition of two new representatives, “Lady Alabel” for Up-River and “Brier” for Bulls. I wonder what next Letterland Day will again reveal? I feel that now our election is safely launched we can look forward to some real excitement in our midst. Let. me see how our Xmas cheer fund stands by way of donation. Goodness, but here’s that merry “ATidgy,” who has been absent almost, half a year, come to pay us a call, and our loyal King Country Ito asks that I accept 2s towards our fund. Ever so many thanks, dear, you are a brick to remember us, even though you are so busy and far away. For our Ship, the “Old Gran,” “Crimson Clover” has sent a parcel containing a pair of tiny bootecs and coatee for some little tot. I wonder to whom old Santa Claus will give this lovely gift? “Crimson Clover,” you are a dear. Now, I must not write a long letter 'to-day, because there are ever so many letters in my mail this week, but ere I conclude I would like you to read the first letter of thanks and gratitude sent to me by two of our friends, visited by our Hui’s Good Samaritan, Alias Dexter, in her noble work of providing cheer, per our Hut fund, for less fortunate.? this Xmastide. The letter:— Dear Wendy,—Many, many thanks for your kind Xmas cooking parcel, and Xmas wishes. I’ve read of fairies as a child and sometimes lately wished that there were such folk, and now hero is a fairy gift sure enough, come to pass, and the first in a life-time, too. Thank you again, Wendy, and thank all others, too. who have made such a blessing possible.—We remain, yours faithfully, Mr. and Mrs. A.B.C. Isn’t that splendid, dears? All my fondest love and kisses, from your ever affectionate.
