JEWELLERS TRICKED
INCIDENT AT GREYMOUTH. MAN TAKES ENGAGEMENT RINGS [ Per Press Association. 1 GREY MOUTH. Sept. 25. Two jewellers’ shops wore robbed of rings to-dav by a man, believed to be unemployed, who was subscqi ently arrested. Asking to see engagement rings at Messrs. Tcnnent’s, ho distracted Mr. Tennent’s attention, removing m and saying he would bring his fiancee to set* the one he liked. Mr. Tennent then discovered his loss, informing t! police, but meantime the man had gone to Messrs. Gilbert’s shop in tho next block, adopting similar tactics and securing a £27 ring from a lady assistant. who later followed and identified hint in a hotel bar. as also did Mr. Tennent. A constable arriving saw him drop one ring on the floor and tho other ring was found behind a barrel. The arrested man will appear before the Court, to morrow.
