RUGBY FOOTBALL Taihape defeated Rangitikei at Hunterville on Wednesday by 30 points to Rangitikei had the better of the initial stages and at one time were leading by 9 points to 3, but Taihape soon caught and passed the Rangitikei score and thereafter never looked back. McKay, Smith, and Hansen wero the pick of tho backs, while H. Henory, Blockley, Hunter, and Spooner went well in the forwards. The Taihape team was.•changed considerably from that originally selected and contained several young players. The team lined out as follows: —D. Thompson, Chase, Hansen, Smith, F. Thompson, McKay, Raukawa, Murphy, Spooner, Henery (2), Dean, Hunter, Blockley, Beiliss (capt.) The match was reported for the “Chronicle’’ by its Hunterville correspondent. The Rangitikei thirdgrade team defeated Taihape thirds by 39 points to 6. Tho winners had a big advantage in weight and made the best best use of it. Their inside backs were very nippy and played a big part in Rangitikei’s victory. The Rangitikei forwards were too big and heavy for tho Taihape vanguard. Taihape’s six points •came from two penalties kicked by Rchia. Rangitikei scored nine tries, six being converted. The Taihape senior team was entertained at dinner by the Rangitikei Rugby Union, at the Argyle Hotel, and returned home by the express.
