DAMAGES AWARDED
MOTORIST’S NEGLIGENCE MAN HIT BY FIKE ENGINE. [ Per Press Association. } WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. Damages amounting to £1446 against Henry John Wynne, civil engineer, were awarded Arthur M-cSperrin, waterside worker, by a jury in the Supreme Court to-day. Plaintiff claimed £5087 6s 7d damages against Wynne and the Wellington Eire Board. The auction arose out of an accident it an intersection on the evening of April 18, when a fire engine mounted the footpath, striking and injuring McSperrin. Wynne was the driver of a motor-car involved in the mishap. The jury found Wynne negligent in turning or attempting to turn where he did, in failing to keep a proper look out, in failing to stop his motor-car in time to allow the engine to pass him, in failing to maintain his position to the left of the centre line of Featherston Street, out of which he was turning, until he had entered the area of the intersection, in obstructing the fire engine and failing to stop his motor-car on thb- approach of the engine. It was Contended that these acts of negligence contributed to the accident. Tn no instance did the jury find the driver of the engine negligent.
