Concern at the fact that within two years 24 15-year-old girls and two 14-year-old girls had been married in Now Zealand, was expressed at a meeting of the Wellington branch of tho So■iety for the Protection of Women and The meeting was specially called to discuss the subject and a motion was •arried urging that the. marriage age for both boys and girls should be raised to 16 years. It was stated that it was desirable to limit the age of marriage, and the age of consent should be the same as is rhe ease in England. It was also stated that girls under 16 years of ago were not physically fit or mentally fit to bear and nurture children.
