Oldest Rugby Fixture That tho annual Rugby match between Christ’s College and the Otago Boys’ High School, which was first played in 1883, is the oldest school Rugby fixture in the British Empire was stated by the headmaster of Christ’s College (Mr. R. J. Richards) at an entertainment held in the college gymnasium for the visiting players last Saturday evening. Mr. Richards said that as far as ho knew the oldest public school fixture in England was that between Marlborough and Clifton, whose first match was played in 1896. Thus the fixture between Christ’s College and Otago (the fif tith anniversary of which was celebrated last Monday) was the oldest in tho Empire. A Public Right Almost wherever tramping parties go in Alpine regions they aro on pri-vately-owned or leased property, for in the back country the divide is generally the boundary line, states the Christchurch Star. Runholders have been very considerate of tramping parties, but it is still necessary that some effort should bo made to preserve the rights of the public. The enthusiasm of mountaincoring clubs and their ob servance of the ethics of hiking are tho best guarantees against the proclamation of proprietorial rights over Al pine scenic regions, but this easy arrangement is not sufficient, and the handful of men who aro fighting for legislation to deal with the rights of way should be given tho strong sup port of the public. Woman Attacked by Boar Severe injuries were received by Mrs. Owen Le Gallais, wife of a well known farmer at Tatuanui, near Morriusville, who was attacked and gored by a boar on the farm. Mrs. Le Gallais was assisting her husband to separate some pigs when she was at tacked by tho boar. Owing to the noise mado by the pigs, Mr. Le Gallais did not notice her plight for some time. Then ho saw her clinging t<> tho fence, over which sho had appar ently tried to climb, and the boar was still attacking her. He beat off the boar and rescued her. Her clothing was torn to ribbons and her legs and thighs wero severely lacerated. The injured woman was taken to a private hospital in Morrinsvme, where she was given medical attention.
