KATOA SOLD EAST

FOURTH SHIP THIS YEAR. The Union Company ’® cargo steamer Katoa, which has been laid up in the stream at Wellington for some time past, has been sold to Eastern buyers. Built in 1912 by Osbourne, Graham and Co., Sunderland, the Katoa has a gross tonnage of 2484. The Katoa was engaged principally in the West Coast coal trade, and holds the record for the biggest coal cargo ver taken out. of Greymouth. She is the fourth Union Company vessel to he sold East this year, and the fourteenth in the last few years. The Waipori, Whangape, Karori, Koromiko, Kittawa, and Kauri were all sold East in 1928, the Kaitangata and Kaiapoi in 1929. the Kaituna and Kamona in 1931, and the Waitemata, Kurow, Waitomo, and Katoa this year. A large number of Australian steamers have also gone East in the last, few years.
