HERD-TESTING DISTRICTS
ASSOCIATIONS’ AMALGAMATION. PATEA AND SOUTH TARANAKI. (Own Correspondent). PATEA, July 25. At the annual meeting of the Patea and district Herd-Testing Association to-day, Mr. E. Parsons presiding over an attendance of some twelve members, Messrs. S. C. Tonks and O. Robertson, of the South Taranaki Herd-Test-ing Association, waited on the meeting and proposed amalgamation between the two associations. Mr. Tonks set forth the arguments of his association, basing the question of amalgamation on the grounds that a greater number of cows meant decreased cost to the farmer for testing. He stated that last season they tested over 6000 cows, and there was good prospect of increasing that number still more this season. The service was next door to perfect, while testing was carried out in the shed, which was a factor greatly appreciated by the farmer. The association also carried out. free of charge, a. mammitis tost, which action had been availed of considerably by farmers. Calves marked by the assocition had been in great demand, realising 30s to £2 a head morn than unmarked calves, and requests for them had been received from all over New Zealand. Mr. Robertson also spoke to the meeting, after which several questions worn answered by ilje deputation, which later withdrew. After discussion by the meeting, a committee was set up to go into the matter, this action, however, rot Binding the Patea Association to amalgamation. The committee elected was as follows:—Messrs. F. Parsons, W. H. Watkins, T. Davis, W. J. Jeffreys, R. Verry. Mr. Parsons said in conclusion that if all was a matter of pounds, shillings and pence, and not nno for sentiment.
