RELIEF ENTERTAINMENT. What is claimed to be one of the finest variety and vaudeville entertainments ever offered to a Wanganui audience will be presented at the Opera House to-night by thc promoters, Messrs. Arthur Vernon and George Smithies. The show is being staged to raise funds for the relief of distressed Maoris and for the men’s “shelter” in Wicksteed Place. The Kaiwhaiki 2YA Maori Entertainers are bringing down from their pa a band of versatile musicians and singers, together with their famous haka team, who will be making their first Wanganui appearance. Mr. Allen and partners will again appear in a clever tap dance. Some plea-sing light numbers will be provide 1 by Mr. Alf. Phillips’ Maori Quartette. Mr. Geo. Smithies is a vagabond fiddler in a novel turn. Air. William Watters, L.A.8., is a newcomer to the ranks of entertainers in Wanganui. To-morrow’s patrons will find him a first-class baritone. Air. Arthur Vernon’s ability as a comedian is too well known in Wanganui to require further praise. The Strollers’ Dance Band is a new combination which will open the second half of the programme in a novel way. Another newcomer as a mirthmaker is Mr. Ross Tulloch. Air. G. Bosher’s tenor voice will be heard in delightful numbers, while Aliss Stella Vernon’s dancing in a “dude” number is sure to find favour. Mr. C. Haar’s baritone should be heard 'to advantage, and Aliss Zelda Watts’ humorous impersonations ar© invariably favourites. A humorous double turn will be given by Miss Marilyn Magill and Air. Jim Scott. Six versatile children will be presented in a group dance by Aliss Swann. Air. F. Watson’s Orchestra will be heard in overture and entr’acte, and Air. Robert Oliver is the official accompanist.
