POWER BOARD INSPECTION. WANGANUI-RANGITIKEI DISTRICT Presided over by Mr. F. Purnell, the monthly meeting of the Wanganui-Ran-gitikei Electric-power Board was held yesterday morning. Short extensions were made to the tow tension lines on the Wanganui Road, Marton, and at Katana Pa. “Wanganui Area.—Line inspection and maintenance has been carried out in the Kai Iwi and Maxwell districts during the month. A number of poles require replacing but, due to lack of shipping, supplies will not arrive from Australia until August. Reconstruction of low pressure lines has been carried out in Campbell Street and Cameron Terrace where the heave feeders from the old Queen’s Park substation have been removed. A 15 K.W. motor generator has been installed In the Wanganui Power House for the operation of relays to control supply to water services. “Inspection has been carried out on two of the boilers at the power house during the month. Generally the boilers are in good condition but one water tube which has been badly blistered for a number of years showed signs of weakening and has been replaced. Where lagged feed water pipes are exposed to the weather, considerable rusting has occurred under the lagging, this being increased by the periodic heating up of the plant. Sixty feet of three-inch steam piping has been replaced. * “A new clause in the inspection of machinery regulations states that all parts of a boiler, even where enclosed in brickwork, must be inspecter at intervals not exceeding ten years. This has made it necessary to remove a considerable amount of brickwork during the present inspection.” The report was adopted.
