TO-MORROW’S BIG MATCH WANGANUI V. RANGITIKEI VISITORS’ TEAM CHOSEN The following team has been selected by Mr. A. J Lenwood to represent Rangitikei in their representative match against Wanganui for tho Pownall Trophy at Wanganui to-morrow;— Full-back: I’. Harro (O.B.). Three-quarters: D. Cameron (B.), G. Havre (O.B.), AL Down (IL). Five-eighths: 11. McPhee (O.B.), AL Fellas (H.). Half-back: R. McDonald (O.B.). Forwards: J. Preston (B.), Al. Taiuru (R.), J. Waters (R.), IL Bridge (O.B.), I. Mclntyre (R.), J. Taiuru (IL), R. Walker (H.), A. O’Sten, captain (A.). Reserves: Backs, G. Hartley (R.), and L. Anderson (Hal.); forwards, E. Calkin (O.B.), and Al. Ross (H.). The team will assemble at the Alarton Post Office at 1 o’clock sharp. Air. A. T. Gatrcll has been appointed manager. This team will field a formidable pack of forwards, and in that department of the game can be relied upon to more than hold its own with Wanganui. If the trophy is to remain in Wanganui the home van will have to bear the brunt of a very heavy game in order to get the ball to the backs. There is every prospect of Rangitikei winning tho scrums.—" Cross-bar.” Another Team A Subscriber’s Opinion To "Cross-bar.”—Regarding the team picked to play Rangitikei on Saturday next. No doubt the selector is to bo complimented on his choice, but to my way of thinking it could be improved upon. Would not the following be a bettor side?: Rgers Burgess Gibson Brown Morgan (Ist.) Smith (2nd.) McGregor Lockett Matthews Fowler Copley Pairama Hansen Thompson Halligan Reserves: Stiver (back); Reynolds (forward). As there is only one essential hooker in the eight scrum, there is no wisdom in picking three for the front. Hence my choice goes to Thompson. No other forwards have shown such consistently good form for their clubs as Hansen and Halligan. Both are young and of good build for the others to pack on. 1 place them in the front with Thompson. There are plenty of better forwards than Firmin, whom I would not even consider. Maitland’s place is on the line until he shows some of his former dash and cleverness. I agree with you that Smith is a little unfortunate in being overlooked. He would fill the second five-eighths position well, although pace is wanted there more than any other position. Brisco’s play has certainly not justified his inclusion and Brown or Burgess would be an improvement. I am, etc., "RUGBYITE.” WANGANUI MATCHES
