THE NEW PRESIDENT

N.Z. RACING CONFERENCE. The newly-elected president of the New Zealand Racing Conference (Mr. •I. S. McLeod) is a well-known business man of Hastings, and member of the firm of de Pelichet, McLeod, and Co., of that town. He has had a long association with racing in New Zealand, both in an official capacity and as an owner. Mr. McLeod has for many years been one of the best-known members of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club, and he is at present its treasurer In recent years he has also been the Hawke’s Bay representative on the executive committee of the Racing Conference. Among the good horses he has owned was the New Zealand Derby winner

Runnymedc, afterwards sold at a big figure to an Australian buyer. Runnymede was one of his own breeding, being thrown by his great brood mare Tressida, the dam alsof of Polly Peachum, Ganymede, Raasay, My Own, and Simba. Simba, it will be remembered, figured in the sensational Gagolla mystery in Australia after his sal* at a good price. Another excellent one Air. McLeod raced was that firstclass handicapper Kick Off, whom he also bred.
