MANAWATU COUNTY EOXTON BEACH ROAD Mr. H. V. Bond (county engineer), submitted a special report on the condition of the above road at Tuesday's meeting. Explaining the position the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber), said that in .1912 a loan of £1250 had beeu raised for the work. Since then the council had paid £575 18s 9d in reduction of the loan, as well as meeting interest to the amount of £759 3s 6d. The balance of the loan outstanding was £724 Is 3d and the council was due to meet interest on this for the next 15J years. In reply to Cr. Morcom the chairman stated that the Awahou Riding was responsible for the total repayment of the loan. It had not been possible at the time to form a special rating area to cover the loan. The county clerk (Mr. A. K. Drew), was instructed to prepare a report on the position for the next meeting. Traffic Inspector Mr. W. Berry (traffic inspector) reported that during the month one person, for allowing stock to wander on a main highway, was lined 20s and costs. Four motor drivers, for failing to keep to the left of the centre lino in the Manawatu Gorge were lined 30s and costs. On June 14, 15 and 16 I stopped motorists on the different highways leading into Palmerston North lor the purpose of checking up their licenses and again on the Foxton Line on June 28. The result was that 40 persons were found to have not renewed their driver’s license. Informations have been laid and cases set down for hearing on July 24.* An information has been laid against one person for allowing stock to wander on main roads. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING The Sandon Club will bo represented at Longburn to-night (Friday), with three teams, A, B and C, for the Jones Shield and one team for the Collinson Shield. The C team will be F. Lumsden, Ken Lumsden, Roy Lumsden, Eric Lumsden and Keith Lumsden. A win for the family would be greeted with much pleasure by the shooting enthusiasts of the district. TE KA WAV RUGBY SUB-UNION The Management Committee of the Te Kawau Rugby Sub-Union met on Tuesday night. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: — From Horowhcnua Rugby Union stating that at present there was no date available for a game with senior representatives.—Received. From Manawatu Rugby Union re the Awahuri and Rongotea game and advising that same should be replayed.— Received. From Manawatu Union suggesting July 19 for game at Awahuri between the Manawatu thirds and Te Kawau juniors.—Accepted. Mr. AJ. Royal to be manager for Te Kawau team. It was resolved that the suggested date (July 26) for the senior representative game, Manawatu v. Te Kawau, at Sanson, be accepted. Mr. J. Cameron to be manager for Te Kawau team. From Mr. S. Reeve advising that he had occasion to stand a Taikorea player on the line during the seven-a-side competition at Oroua Downs. The chairman stated that the matter had been considered by the executive and it had been decided that provided the offender apologised he would be allowed to continue playing. The action was endorsed. From Rongotea Football Club advising that C. Kitchen had been injured during the playing of the Oroua v. To Kawau game at the A. and P. Show.— Resolved to a*sk A. and P. Association for grant towards medical expenses. From Foxton Fire Brigade Club advising that a member of their team had been injured at the seven-a-side tournament at Oroua Downs and asking for a donation towards medical expenses. Resolved that an effort be made to arrange a benefit for players injured in games other than club games, and the Foxton case would be considered. From Ohakea, Glen Oroua and Awahuri schools asking for a donation of a football.—The chairman said that already £5 had been spent on school footballs and the grant from the Manawatu Union was not to hand. It was resolved that subject to the grant being available the applications be granted. Mr. A. N. Marcom (Rongotea) said that the playing of the two games between Awahuri fend Rongotea would make the competition too late in the season and suggested that the secretary ascertain from both clubs if they were willing to make the first game the final one for the McKelvie Shield and the Fagan Cup. Mr. J. Hughes (Awahuri) said he was pleased with the suggestion. The Awahuri Club would be quite willing, although they recognised that the conditions did not favour Rongotea. Mr. M. Royal suggested that the MeKelvie Shield and Fagan Cup competitions be concluded before the knockout cup games start. It was resolved that the fixtures as arranged be played and that the secretary write both the Awahuri and Rongotea Clubs asking if they are in favour of the first game between the two chibs should count as the McKelvie Shield and Fagan Cup final. Manawatu Thirds v. Te Kawau Juniors The, following team has been selected to play for Te Kawau at Awahuri on July 19: Full-back: Nichol; threequarters: York. Davey and Donaldson; five-eighths: Gilmore and Simson; half: Wright; forwards: Hynes, Rowe, Jellyman, Cole, Gardner,'Fitzgerald, Murphy (rapt.), Waller. Reserves: Sexton ,Nicholson (forwards); Lane, Sutherland. Gimblett (backs). Mr. S. Reeve will control the game.
