FANCY DRESS BALI

IN AID OF DENTAL CLINIC. The Wanganui East Town Hall presented a very gay scene on Tuesday evening last, on the occasion of the second fancy dress ball in aid of the Dental Clinic. Hundreds of children in splendid costumes presented a difficult task to the judges, Air. and Airs. Ross Aleikle, but tho eventual prize-winners satisfied everybody. The Wanganui Regimental Band, under Captain J. Trussell, very efficiently supplied the music for the children’s dancing. Undoubtedly the major attraction of the evening was the exhibition dancing—a snappy tap dance by Nancyc and Francis Bridges, and tho spectacular nations’ ballet. This comproscd 25 pupils of the Wanganui East Schoo], representing eight different nations, and a ballot of olden time people. As the nations were announced the characteristic music for each country was played, and two girls attired in the costumes peculiar to the country they were portraying, performed a few steps of tho national dance. After the eight nations had been presented to the old English ballet and the audience, tho musicians struck up Grainger’s “Country Gardens,” and the graceful minuet was performed by the ballet, very daintily dressed in lavender and black. The dancers were trained by the Afisscs Bridges, who also designed the frocking, and with their brother, played the music. They must be congratulated on the success of their effort. The prizes were then presented by Air. and Mrs. Aleikle and Air. R. N. Wilson. Airs. Aleikle was presented with a bouquet and violets and winter roses, and Aliss Nancy Wilson with a box of chocolates. Supper was then served, and the adults danced until midnight.
