A westerly depression has advanced on to southern New r Zealand, while a cyclone has developed off the New South "Wales coast. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerly, reaching gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough on the west coast about Cook and Fovcaux Strait, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Freshening northerly winds and rising seas. Weather: Unsettled in western and far southern districts, with rain, and heavy falls likely on the west coast of the South Island. Fair at first in eastern districts, but fairly general rain developing after from 16 to 24 hours. Mild temperatures. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 2 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, trace. Shade temperature: Maximum, 55 dog.
