WOOL DEMAND

WAIRARAPA CLIP PRICES Received July J2, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, July 11. Offerings at the wool sales to-day were 12,181 bales, including 6066 of New Zealand. About 8217 were sold. Demand is well sustained, and a ready clearance was effected by Home and Continental buyers at full recent rates. Scoured Merinos, New Zealand, “Otamatapaio ” made 25Ad highest, 24d average. Greasy crossbred, “Branccpeth,” 13ld highest, 8 7-8 d average. WOOL AND EXCHANGE Rates ot exchange play a great part in the prices received in Australia as in New Zealand, Winchcombe, Carson, and Co. point out that in terms of gold the value of wool is about half the figure being secured in Australian cur rency. Any marked change in exchange rates does not appear likely in the immediate future,. but while they arc such a marked influence on prices in Australia, the risk of alteration in them should not bo forgotten. Apart from the possibility of variation in that respect, the wool outlook is more promising than for years. Messrs. Levin and Co.. Ltd. have received the following cable from their London agents, dated July 10:—“The auctions arc proceeding with great spirit, especially for Merinos, fine crossbreds and slipe wools generally.
