MOTORING MATTERS

AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION WANGANUI AND DISTRICT. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Automobile Association was held last evening, Mr. D. McFarlane presiding. There were also present: Messrs. N. R. Bain, J. R. Franklin, T. Dix, S. G. Whittali, E. M. Silk, H. Bayly, G. Meuli, J. A. Aylmer, and A. S. Burgess. It was decided to donate five guineas to the Wanganui Division of the St. John Ambulance Association, and one guinea to the Marton branch of the association. Mr. McFarlane stated that he was investigating the matter of the school essays with regard to “Safety First,” and that he would have something to report at the next meeting. The secretary reported that a letter had been received from the South Taranaki Automobile Association, asking that the Waitotara Hill corner be improved. Mr. Dix said that the Public Works Department had inspected the corner and there was every likelihood that the department would carry out improvements. Tho South Taranaki Association is to be informed accordingly. A letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board, advising that a meeting is to be held on Saturday morning to discuss arrangements in connection with a summer school for 300 teachers in Wanganui during January. It was stated that the Mayor, Mr. N. G. Armstrong, would be present, together with Mr. Rae, of Auckland. It was agreed that Messrs. Hill and Aylmer attend as representatives of tho association. Patrol L. Dowling reported that during the month he had carried out headlight testing, and given school lectures in conjunction with patrol work. No fewer than 310 cars had been attended to to carry out lamp adjustment. During the month 57 lectures on “Safety First” had been given ir? schools.
