TO-DAY’S RUGBY I Bulls and Athletic seniors meet at Bulls this afternoon, and Bulls juniors are expected to 1/ivel to Stan way to I meet Toko-Stanway juniors, this game I being postponed from Wednesday week, .when the Bulls conveyance broke down en route. The Bailey Cup seven-a-side competition will be played on Bulls Domain on Wednesday next, and it is expected that entries will be numerous. Last year the competition was played on a Saturday, which proved to be a mistake, clubs in outside sub-unions being untible to take part on account of having inter-club competition games to play. With the reversion to a Wednesday it is expected that clubs in Wanganui, Feilding, and Palmerston North will be interested, as well as several from the To Kawau Sub-union. HOCKEY Ohakea and Carnarvon ladies’ hockey teams meet at Ohakea to-day at 2 p.m. The Ohakea side is as follows: M. Ellery, N. Ellery, I. Ellery, E. Ellery, M. Taylor, J. McKinnon, P. Capstick, T. Harris, C. Harris, N. Murray, and KI. Tremaine. GOLF On Thursday all-day play took place in line weather, and a large number of ladies took part. In the morning, stroke play resulted in the following good cards being returned:—Mrs McKclvie, 100—29—71; Miss Brookie. 101—29 72: Miss Price. 104—31—73. Foursomes were played in the afternoon, the winners being Mrs Ma'ckay and Mrs Prichard, and the runners-up were Mrs McKclvie and Miss P. Pcrrett. In conjunction with the above the Coronation Medal ind Aotea-roa Cup rounds were played. For the Coronation Medal the best cards were: Miss C. Wilson, 86—11—75; Mrs McDonnell, 90—14—76; Miss McKenzie. 86—9—77; Mrs Mackay, 93—16—77. For the Aotea-roa Cup the best Scores were: Mrs McKclvie. 100—29—71; Miss Wilson, 86—11—75; Miss McKenzie, 86— 9—77. This afternoon the Rangitikei Men’s Golf Club will play Nathan Cup and inter-club matches against the Palmerston North Golf Club, the matches being played on the Te Matai links. THE PICTURES This evening a British society comedy entitled “The Perfect Lady,” will be shown at the Town Hall. The cast is a strong one, and the acting good. The Daily Mail recommends tho picture as 11 pleasant and popular entertainment. ’ ’ GENERAL NEWS The dance and euchre party organised to help the funds of the Bulls Maori Tennis Club was well attended on Thursday night, and proved a financial success. The Aotea-roa orchestra provided excellent dance music, and extras were played by Mrs H. Rewit, -Mr J. Healey and Mr J. Gilbert. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss M. Harvey and Mr McConachie, and the spot waltz by Miss L. Mitchoil and Mr R. Ellery. Winners at cards were Mrs Blanchard and Mr J. E. Walker. Great credit is duo to the organisers for the enjoyable entertainment provided, and patrons and others will look forward to another function of the sort before long. The Ohakea Hall was well filled on Thursday evening when a dance and card party was held in aid of the funds of the Makowhai Camp Football Cluh. Ohakea was strongly represented, and others came from all parts of the district. The honorary secretary, Mr Vine, and willing helpers kept everything moving smoothly, and Bramwell’s orchestra supplied the music. Confetti and streamers added to the gaiety of the evening, which was enjoyed by all. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss Tricker and. Mr P. Dixon, and the spot waltz by Miss M. Murray and Mr L. Snellgrove. Winners at euchrq were Mrs Quinlan, Mr McCarthy. Mrs Matthews and Mr Groll. A watch competition for the radio fund was won by Mr Kayes. At the supper interval Mr Bond returned thanks on behalf of tho Makowhai Club for tho generous patronage extended, and paid a trib/* to the Ohakea ladies who had worked so hard to make the function a success. The Bulls Croquet Club’s fortnightly card afternoon was fairly well attended on Tuesday, and proved very enjoyable. Mrs A. H. Escott won the trophy. MARTON HARRIERS. The harriers will meet at 2.30 o’clock this afternoon at St. Stephen’s Hall, when, in continuation of tho scries, a teams’ race over the full course of 54 measured miles will be held. The teams will bo selected prior to the start of the race. Judging on tho form of the runners shown last week some good performances should be put up.
