MARIST TRAINING HARD HOPING TO BEAT KAIERAU. Practically a full team of Marist were out last night in continuation of a systematic run of training in preparation for to-morrow’s big match on Spriggens Park against Kaierau. A close study of Kaierau’ s play was made last time the maroons were in action and there is a general feeling of confidence in the green ranks that the champions will have to be all-out to win. There are many quite confident that Marist will succeed If they do they will 1 have achieved what no other team in the comnetition has been capable of yet. Kaierau, on the other hand, have continued their thorough methods of training and will field a side charged with two important duties—to win and keep the lino from being crossed. If Marist cannot win, perhaps they will bo able to cross that “invincible” line. That in itself will be an achievement. There are vzcak spots in the Kaierau side and if the green pack plays up to form at least one of those weak points will be exploited. The Marist v. Kaierau clash will be preceded by what gives every promise of being a close, even game—Old Boys v. Pirates. Both these teams are keen. RANGITIKEI AFFAIRS SPECIAL MEETING LAPSES. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The special meeting of the Rangitikei Rugby Union, called for last night to discuss Mr. A. E. Caldow’s notice of motion that a judicial committee be set up, lapsed for want of a quorum. Later, a meeting of the Management Committee of the union was held, Mr. A. T. Gatrell presiding. There were also present Mess.s C. E. Vile, L. G. Morris, J, C. oMrris, J. C. Thomas, A. Gracie, W. S. Page, W E. Gibbons, J. Bush, W. E. Thompson, S. B. Abel and K. A. Williams. Mr. Cowdry reported having ordered off W. Days and K. Follas in the Halcombo v. Tlunterville senior match at Halcombe. After tho referee and [both players had been heard, tho committee decided that as the offenders had stood down for two playing Saturdays, the punishment was adequate. Tho chairman, intimating the committee’s decision said that the players had been treated lightly and tho case should act as a warning to others that rough play would have to cease. Flock House thirds were granted permision to play in a seven-a-side tournament at Palmerston on June 3. The Oroua Hockey Association were granted the usual percentage of the gates on May 10. As the junior match, Bulls v. TokoStanway, had to bo abandoned on May 17, owing to the Bulls lorry breaking down, it was decided that it be set down for to-morrow at Stanway. Mr W. E. Gibbons voiced objection to tho manner in which the representative team was being selected, pointing out that players in the Rangitikei team who had taken the field against Taihape last Wednesday, were playing in positions they did not play in in club football. He considered ihat was one of tho chief reasons why the team hd not done well in the past. After discussion the matter was dropped. TACKLED THE REFEREE INCIDENT AT AUCKLAND. Amusement was caused during the Marist-Grammar Rugby match at Eden Park, Auckland, last Saturday. A Grammar player was making for the opposite goal lino pursued by a mem ber of the Marist team, when the referee, running in front, of the latter, was promptly tar.kled by him and sent headlong to the ground, amid laughter from the spectators.
