AT THE RACES

ATTRACTIVE FASHIONS. The second day of the May meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club was held on Saturday iu calm, brighi weather. Fashions, as usual, were varied, ranging from woollen suits, tweed ensembles, smart suits worn with fur cravats or stoles and attractively cut coats of diagonal, cordurujand bouclo cloth with its variety oi plain and corded finished wit' ueautifuJly fas.bj.enj4 Collars of fur. Some very pretty frocks peeped from under luxurious fur coats and coal iiocks with intricately designed capes edged or banded .with fur and worn in individual ways found much favour. Small hats and turbans of felt were generally worn though here and there appeared swathed or stitched velvet toques becomingly finished with eye veils. Bust, burgundy, blues and ail shades of brown irom gold-beige, Sahara, Jacobean to dark browns were the popular colours, while a few smart costumes in the new parma-violct shades and mauve heather tweeds worn with matching hats were very attractive. Black costumes and coats were also much favoured and were brightened by either a gay coloured scarf gi erminette cravat. Grey was also worn and was relieved with cherry red, violet or a pretty shaue of blue. Several of tho coat frocks were distinguished by shoulder epaulettes, cape effects, or fur trimmed scarves in original designs. The music of the Wanganui Garrison Band, under the conductorship of Mr. T. Gray, was the subject of much complimentary comment. Among those present were;—Mrs. I.
