BIG WRESTLING

SATURDAY’S BOUT BIG INTEREST DEVELOPING. Interest is increasing rapidly in next Saturday’s professional wrestling bout between Dr. Len Hall and Jack Patterson, which is to bo staged at the Wanganui Opera House under th© jurisdiction of the Wanganui Wrestling Association. This is what the Press has to say of tho bout Dr. Hall wrestled in Christchurch last Monday night against Bill Beth:— “Dr. Len Hall defeated Bill Beth, in a professional wrestling match held in St. James’ Theatre before a crowded house. Beth was disqualified for punching in tho final round. At that stage Beth had one fall and Hall one. Hall’s was awarded for a foul committed by Beth, and Beth took tho first fall of the match following a series of headlocks. Tho men were heavier than those previously seen in international contests in Christchurch and the general quality of the wrestling was much higher. It was hard, keen, and clever throughout, and both were very fast for such heavy men. Hall was more versatile but Beth was a giant in stature and strength. Hall will now meet George Walker, the British Empire champion, in a bout in Wellington.” Wrestling has increased rather than lost its hold on the public of this country. It is a type of sport that lifts excitement to the roof and keeps the eudience keyed up all the way. It is stated on good authority that the wrestlers who have come to tho Dominion for this season are far ahead of any importations seen so far, and that they will cause lively scenes in every hall they wrestle in. The fact that Hall is billed to meet Walker at Wellington about the end of this month will create special interest in his match in Wanganui with Patterson. In addition to the big bout the Wanganui Wrestling Association has arranged a special match between Carl Pago (12st) and Pete Razos (12st), both of Wellington. These two are of rival schools. This will bo decided in three five-minute rounds under professional rules. These two aro wonderful wrestlers. Other amateur bouts arranged will be as follow: D. Hutchison (9st), Wellington, v. H. Bullock (Ost 71b), Wanganui. D. Minns (9st 71b), Wellington, v. C. Matson (lOst), Wanganui. ’C. Bartlett (list), Wellington, v. J. Pocljursky (J 0.9 Wanganui. Tho box plan has been opened at Messrs. J. Goss and Son’s, next the Post Office, and scats are going fast. Special prices have been arranged for ladies, who may occupy the front stalls or circle. More Wrestlers. Word was received by the Wrestling Union by cable that th© four men expected to leave by the Alakura were actually on board and are expected to arrive in Wellington on Alay 29. These men are Jack Clarke, Perry, Varga and Manios. While very little is known in New Zealand about the first three, it is stated by union officials that both Varga and Perry are very good men, while Clarke and Alamos may be found a little on the light side for the other men already here.
