ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
An officers’ meeting was held in the association hall, Mr. J. Brine, Assistant Commissioner, Wanganui District, being in the chair. Those present included District Superintendent G. H. Sleight, District Officer H. Harlc, Lady District Officers M. Brine and H. Vine, Corps Superintendent A. E. Allprcss, Corps Officer J. H .Melton, Lady Corps Superintendent Mrs. Day, Divisional Superintendents R. Wakely, Geo Scott, and W. R. Popo, Lady Divisional Superintendents Airs. Boyd and Mrs. Hatch, Ambulance Officers Messrs. J. Scott, J. E. Welton, Lady Ambulance Officer Mrs. Lucock. Apologies for absence were received from Divisional Superintendent W 6ou rne and Ambulance Officer E. Guile ry. Tho Assistant. Commissioner spoke complimentary on all thoso who helped in carrying the Easter competitions to such a successful conclusion. Especial thunks are due to Doctors Mollie Christie, Helen Deem, and Helen Topham, als** Dr. Kendrick Christie for judging tho various events; to Mr. J. Scott for judging the transport work, also for his valuable services in arranging the programme for the evening social; to Mosdamcs Ballance, Thurlow, Payne and Simpson, for billeting tho lady competitors from Wellington; to Mosdames Boyd, Lucock, Easton and others, for attending to the catering, afternoon and evening; to Mr. Kendall, Mr. J. Scott, Mr. Moore, and Miss S. Watt, whoso singing and elocutionary items were highly appreciated by the large company present. Thanks are also due to the Modek Dairy Co. and others for donations received.
During tho evening Air. Goo. Sleight took the chair, Air. F. Symes, DeputyMayor, being unavoidably absent, and presented the trophies, medallions and certificates (ambulance and nursing). It was decided to hold a church parade on the morning of June 18, at Trinity Church, Victoria Avenue. It is sincerely hoped, on this occasion, to have the company of the Legion of Frontiersmen and the Queen Alexandra Band. Mr. J. H. Melton was appointed as Cadet Supervising Officer vido E. A. Allpress, who resigned tho position in order to give his whole attention to tho work of Public Duty Officer. Tho District Officer reported having interviewed the manager of the Plaza Theatre re tho St. John Ambulance Brigade film showing the wide activities of tho brigade in London during the centenary celebrations. This picture will bo screened from May 17 to June 3 and it is hoped that every member—senior and junior—of the brigade in Wanganui district will not miss seeing it. AH members intending to see this interesting film should at once notify their respective divisional superintendent, who will give them further information. During the evening tho AssistantCommissioner presented Air. J. E. Welton. of the East Town Cadet Division, with his warrant as Cadet Officer.
