Meterological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, May 16, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is still centred to the north-cast of Auckland Peninsula, while' a series of westerly depressions extends from Tasmania to southern New Zealand. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly still of gale force in places from Cook Strait southwards, backing later to south-westerly in the south. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough on the west coast and offshore south of Castle Point, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong west to south-west winds and rough seas. Weather: Mainly fair in eastern districts, elsewhere changeable and squally, with rain at times and further heavy falls on the west coast of the South Island. Mild temperatures. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday. Bright sunshine, nil. Rainfall, .12 inches. Shades temperature: Maximum, 56 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 37 deg.
