SALES OF THE WEEK The Farmers’ Co-operative Society of New Zealand, Ltd., report that the weather of the past few days has been appreciated after the wet wintry conditions ruling- during the first part of the week. As is usual this time of the year, many herds are now on to once a day milking, although in some cases production has been so well maintained that it has been found impossible to carry out the usual custom. Feeding out will be much later this year, due to the wonderfully prolific growth experienced during the season, although some farmers, during the cold wet conditions ruling during the week, have deemed it policy to feed out a little hay to the stock. During the week a steady improve ment has been maintained in the values of our dairy produce, and this is all the more welcome and hopefu l in view of the heavy stocks and the apparent glut that is being experienced on the Home market at the present time. Business during the week has been of a brisk nature, both in the paddo and in the yards. A steady culling out from the herds is now taking place and our yards at all centres have been well filled with store cattle. Slightly more enquiry is being shown, mostly by local farmers, for heifers in truck lots, and sales have been made at satisfactory prices. It is felt by many that getting in at this time of the -year enables them to obtain the very pick of the cattle, whereas later on there will bo more of the “tail-end” offering. A keen enquiry has been shown for dairy herds and since last week we report the sale of another herd of 40 cows at £7 per head. The demand for store cattle, although not ns brisk ns a few week ago, during the week has been quite keen, especially for young cattle. Fat sieep.—The demand for fa< ewes has been keen, and we have been successful in disposing of several truck lots from 7s Gd to 9s per head Very little enquiry exists for fat wethers, their values ranging from 13s Gd to 15s. Store Sheep.—Stope wethers are quite keenly sought after, although most quotes are slightly above in tending purchasers’ ideas of values We report the sale during the wools of a line of ewe lambs at 10s 9d, al though quotes are very hard to procure. A good enquiry exists for inlamb owes, but as yet not many quotes are available. Fat Cattle.— Practically no change in the value of fat cattle has occurred since last wook. Wo have effected sales of prime fat heifers at ss, with lighter sorts £4 10s to £4 12s Gd. Sales of fat cows in truck lots have been made from £4 to £4 10s. Store Cattle.—The demand has prac tlcally confined itself to young cattle, quotes of which are scarce enough We report the sale, during the woolof a line of 20-month P.A. steers nt £2 ss. Odd sales of store, bullocks have been effected up to £4 Dftiry Heifers.—The demand has improved somewhat at a lower range of values, the cold weather experi enced during the week having caused holders of large lines to become rather anxious to quit. Good 3 year heifers am in demand up to £•’. with 2-year-olds from £4 15s to £5 5s in truck lots. At the present time only the best quality are in flemnnd.
