“THE ENCHANTED CLOCK”

i PANTOMIME AT REGENT. TALENTED CHILDREN. With a view to providing something really out of the ordinary line of entertainment, tho Regent Theatre management have arranged for what is called a “potted” pantomime to be staged at the matinee to-day. This comprises most of the popular items from pantomime proper, with the difference that the elaborate staging and “padding” is eliminated. Thus it is possible to present some fourteen items in rapid succession without tedious intervals. The talented children of the Wright School of Dancing will be the performers in this afternoon’s delightful pantomime, and the displays they have given in the studio make it certain that the matinee will be a memorable one. Over 20 performers are taking part, and their beautiful frockings should make the ensembles more effective. As the hands of the enchanted clock swing round to mark the passing of minutes and hours item will follow item with charming effect. “Golden Hour” will find Maureen Dickson and Anita Stokes holding the stage, while George Allan will follow in the Hungarian scene. Molly Petersen and Bruce Brethrenton will be partners in the exhibition of the 1933 waltz, and Wanganui’s Gracie Fields, Zelda Watt, is to give some delightful impersonations. In a skipping display “Dawn” will reveal this healthy exercise in a new light. A really good act is that of the “Aerial Trio,” Doreen Beswick, Clunie Annabell and Sheila Dyer, and they will be followed by the premiere danseuse, Pat Dickson. Molly Peterson will be seen in the hunting scene, and an Adagio number will find “Trevor” and “Dawn” featured. “Fu Chu” explains itself; Maureen (Dickson’s clog dance should be a good one; Molly Benjamin will please as Imperial dancer, and Rosemary Field is bound to appear

in “Chicken.” In the grand finale tap ballet Shirley Mills will be the singer and the ballet will include Sheila Dyer, Natalie Riley, Molly Petersen, Dawn, Miriam Watt, Jean Stapleton and Clunie Annabell. Altogether, “The Enchanted Clock,” promises to provide one of the finest turns ever presented at the Regent Theatre^where it will be on tho same programme as “The Kid From Spain,” Eddie Cantor’s mirth-provok-ing offering.

Negotiations are being carried on with J. C. Williamson Ltd. for a visit to South Africa of the firm’s Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, which is at present playing to crowded houses in Perth, and will subsequently appear in Adelaide. Mr. E. J. Tait, one of the managing directors of J. 0. Williamson Ltd., will shortly leave for South Africa >to finalise arrangements, and will later go to London, to see new theatrical attractions which may be acquired for Australia. By the time it finishes its Australian tour, tho Gilbert and Sullivan Company will have been in existence two years. In South Africa it will also present for the first time in that country “Rose Marie,” the rights of which are held by the firm for South Africa.
