BRITONS AT HOME, by T. C. List. The author of this little book was a member of the New Zealand delegation to the Imperial Press Conference in 1930. His preface says that his work is not the result of preconceived plan or long cherished ambition, but that it grew naturally, almost irresistibly, out of his numerous happy experiences at Home. All readers will agree that he was indeed fortunate in his opportunities. But they will further agree that New Zealand was no less fortunate in having a representative so well fitted to take full advantage of his surroundings and so qualified to preserve the results of the benefit of his own people. Westminster, The Tower, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, and dozens of other place names that ring through British history like a bugle call, will be found in his pages. Prominent Britons of many types and in different walks of life arc seen in their daily surroundings, united in their high ideals of service to their country and to the Empire. The schools of England, those wonderful cradles of the statesmen and leaders of the nation, are shown in detail, each wrapped in its own fine tradi tion of high endeavour and proud achievement. Throughout the book the Briton overseas will find inspiring pictures of the homeland of his race: a rare blend of historical associations with the triumphs of modern progress. We confidently recommend the book ’to all our readers.
