W. H. SOBEY
EFFECT OF INJURY. W. H. Sobey, one of the half-backs with the British Rugby team in New Zealand in 1930, has decided to give up Rugby. The ankle injury he met with before Christmas has mended, but he feels it unwise to turn out again next season. Although he has been playing eight seasons, he has only completed four of them, injuries always laying him aside. When with the British team in New Zealand—he was vicecaptain to F. D. Prentice—he was so severely hurt in the first quarter of an hour of the opening match that he could not play again on the tour. Sobey was a victim of the English rule of “No replacements.” He stayed on the field in Wanganui in 1930 to see his side through when going off would have meant England playing with thirteen men. Bonner, the fullback, was already on the side-line injured.—* * Cross-bar. ’ >
