Burglary at Ohakune.

On Saturday night at Ohakune the drapery store of Mr. W. L. Jones was entered by bruglars and over £2OO worth of drapery removed. Detective J. Murray is in charge of the investigations. Valuation of Land Strong condemnation of the fluctu ation of land values was made by Mi R. G. Buckleton in his address in Wanganui yesterday on the subject o! rehabilitating the primary industry Ho said that dealing and speculation in land was the basic cause of the economic troubles of this country. In advocating that ho was re minded of a transaction in Queensland, where the stock on the property was sold, but the land was thrown in As Low as Possible When thanking members of tin Wanganui-Rangitikci Electric-power Board for their welcome to him as a new member yesterday morning, Mr. W. J. Rogers remarked that he hopc« the board would continue its policy o. reducing charges to consumers where ever possible. This matter of chargewas dealt with by Mr. G. A. Ammund sen, the secretary, in his monthly re port, in which ho stated: “Severn, references have, been made through the Press to reduction in charges by other boat ds consequent upon the reduced rates of interest payable by local bodies. It is desirable to emphasise again that this board set out to meet the decreased spending power of its consumers by reducing its charges in advance, and that users in this dis trict have Received tnelr electricity service for over two years at rates 'hat are still more favourable than those available in other districts to which reference has been made. While changing conditions will from time to time necessitate variation in certain rates, the board’s charges are so low that no general reduction can bo suggested. ”
