An exceptionally high flood occurred in the Waitotara Biver and the road was under water for some distance. The thick growth of willows in the lower reaches of the river has greatly restricted the waterway during recent years and flooding from this cause may be expected. Except for minor slips other roads in the riding are in fair order. Moumahaki Biding.—A length of 121 chains of shell rock metalling was completed on the Puao Boad and about 20 chains of metalling on the WaitotaraNgutuwera Boad was finished' before the wet weather temporarily held up the work. Several slips have occurred on the Mangawhio, Weraweraonga. and Omata Beads and these are now being removed, Waverley Biding—Grading was commenced on the Okotuku and Mataimoana Bonds but has now been abandoned until the spring months. Maintenance metal has been carted to the Karahaki Tower Hill and Bangikura Station Bonds. Several slips have been removed from the Kohi and Karahaki Boads.

Otoia East—Very bad slips occurred on the Maben Road which completely blocked traffic, but a temporary track is now being prepared. The slips are too large to remove economically during the winter and they will be allowed to dry out before the road is permanently repaired. Other roads are in fair order and routine maintenance has been attended to.

Otoia West.—The heavy rains have caused a fair amount of damage by scouring earth shoulders along metalled roads and slips have come down on Jones’, Upper Ball and Otoia Roads. Repairs are being carried out as quickly as possible and general maintenance is being attended to on all roads.
