TOURISTS MARRY IN LINER The first wedding ever performed in the liner Empress of Britain took place a quarter of an hour before she left Colombo Harbour on January 23. The registrar at Colombo went aboard the ship to marry Mr. Chester Myers, of York, Pennsylvania, and Miss Leah Strayer, from New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The brief ceremony was held in th Empress’ ballroom, which was decorated lavishly and bedecked with pink ostrich plumes. Baron Marwicz, of Paris, gave away the bride, and Mr. F. R. The couple, who are old friends had tried unsuccessfully to get married at every place at which the Empress of Britain’s tourists/had stayed since Cairo, but residential requirements <’ structcd them until they reached Ceylon. They also tried to get the captain of the Empress to marry them while the vessel was in the Indian Ocean, but he was unable to do so.
