TALLOW AND HEMP
LONDON MARKETS STEADY. The IDepartmcnt of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated May 6, from tho High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—Tallow.—Fair demand with spot quotations nominally unchanged. Hemp.—Manilla: Market steadier with better inquiry. “K” grade for May-July shipment quoted buyers £l4 10s. Sisal. Market firm with hardening tendency. No. 1 afloat sold at £l5 15s, and August-October shipment at £l5 17s 6d. New Zealand: Market quiet and unchanged, with no first-hand sales reported. Peas.—Maples Market firmer with better demand. New Zealand No. 1 for May shipment offered 40s 6d to 41s; fair average quality sold 36s Gd to 37s Gd. Shippers reserved and now quoting 38s Gd tn 395. Tasmanian, afloat, sold 43s Gd. Shippers offer for May-June or June-July shipment 455. Blues. —Market weak. Sellers, Tasmanian, afloat, quote 15s 6d. New Zealand marrowfats, approximate value 16s 6d.
