LOG ON MAN’S CHEST
WOOD-CHOPPING DISPLAY AXEMAN’S BED OF NAILS. A novelty event attracted much atention at the wood-chopping competi:ions at the recent Royal Sydney Show. W. Coleman, of Lithgow, New South Wales, who has a reputation as a strong man, lay full length on a bed of 6-in. nails. Across him was placed a 10-in. log in a cradle. On this L. Appo. another New South Wales axeman, stood and chopped it through, much to the wonderment of the crowd. Gasps from some of the onlookers w hen Appo was cutting low on the log demonstrated sympathy for the “underdog.” There were more gasps when Coleman arose and presented to view a bare back resembling a nutmeg scraper. “I wouldn’t take it on for £1000,” remarked the president of the wood-chop-ping. Mr Pritchard.
