OBITUARY

A CHINESE METHUSALEH PEKING, May 5. The Chinese Press reports the death at the age of 256 of Li Ching-Yun, one of the world’s oldest mon. He attributed his longevity to peace of mind. MR. P. H. HARPER, S M. [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH. May 7. The death occurred in Christchurch to-day of Mr. Philip Hamilton Harper, stipendiary magistrate at Gisborne since 1929 until some months ago when he suffered injuries in a fall over a cliff while fishing. He came to Christchurch for advice and died after operating.
