FAR TOO MANY MEMBERS FARMERS’ UNION OPINION “It is the most glaring instance of extravagance in the annals of New Zealand history. Here wo are in times of distress and we have 13 members representing this district,said Mr. W. Howie at the meeting of the Wanganui executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union yesterday. .He was speaking to a remit proposed by the Makirikiri branch “That the Farmers’ Union seek the co-operation of all organisations throughout New Zealand to support the recommendation of the Economy Commission that the number of members in the House of Representatives bo reduced.” “We have SO members in the House and Now Zealand never had a more puisne Government than at the present' rime,” continued Mr. Howie. “I would like to see the Government reduced by i two-thirds and I am satisfied that the remaining members could represent the people and look after their business better than SO.” The remit was carried without, opposition and will be referred to tin 1 Provincial Conference to bo held at Masterton on May 30 and 31.
