OBITUARY

SIR HENRY ROYCE. Received April 25, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, April 23. Tho death is reported of Sir Henry Boyce, engineer, aged 70. Sir Frederick Henry Royce, 0.8. E.. was director and chief engineer of Rolls-Royce, Ltd. He was a son of Mr. James Royce, of the Castor and Alwalton Flour Mills, and was apprenticed to engineering on the Great Northern Rilway. Later, he worked at a gun machinery in Leeds and pioneered electric light work inthe streets of London. In 1884, when 21 years old, he founded Royce, Ltd., mechanical and electrical engineers, in Manchester. In 1907, in company with Hon. C. S. Rolls, he was a joint founder of the firm of Rolls-Royce. Ltd., motor-car and aero engine builders. Sir Henry was created a baronet in 1930. SIR ALEXANDER SWETTENHAM. Received April 25. 5.5 p.m. LONDON, April 23. The death has occurred of Sir Alaxan der Swettenham, aged 86. Sir Alexander Swettenham, K.C.M.G.. was educated at Clare College, Cam bridge, and entered the Ceylon Civil Service. Later, he was Receiver-Gen-eral at Cyprus. Auditor-General in Cey lon. Colonial Secretary at Singapore, and Governor of Birtish Guiana aud .Jamaica. -He relinquished Tis last post in 1907. GENERAL NAGAOKA. Received April 25, 5.5 p.m. TOKIO, April 23. The death has occurred of General Gwaishi Nagaoka, aged 77. He was an enthusiast in promoting civil aviation.
