HUNTERVILLE

NEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Although the day was wet and cold, the new church erected by the Presbyterians of Hunterville and district was full to the doors, many only finding standing room on the occasion of the official opening on Saturday. As the day was so unpleasant it was decided to enter the building promptly and at the church door, tho Rev. J. Paterson, M.A., handed the key to Mrs W. Wilson, asking her to open tho door. The ministers and congregation entered singing tho 100th. Psalm. Tho Rev. J. Paterson said the building had been erected for tho worship of God and was a visible symbol of that worship. While the world was without that continuous consciousness of God as known by their grandfathers and great grandfathers the Scots as a nation were profoundly religious. It was a time of trouble and nations and individuals had built up commerce, forgetting God, but they found that things would not happen as they wanted, and a new recognition and understanding of the Great Master was needed in the world to-day. He hoped all tho Presbyterians would attend the church on Sundays and not let it sta,nd empty and valueless. They should come and bear witness to their faith. It was not meant that they should live on their strength alone for tho Lord had said, “Come Unto Me,” and more than anything else they should seek a new feeling of the power of God. It was a beautiful building in a beautiful world |and they should come to this place of bcautv which was the gate to Heaven. The architect for the building was Mr Hood, of Wanganui, and tho work has been faithfully carried out by the contractor. Mr D. Moir, of Hunterville.
