ANZAC DAY CEREMONY Arrangements for the services to be held in Patca on Anzac Day were made at a meeting of the Ministers’ Association and civic officials last Thurs day, the Mayor (Air. F. Rainsbottom), presiding. The programme for the service to be held m the Town Hall at J.I a.m. was drawn up. Returned men of all branches of the army, navy aud air forces and South African \ eterans are asked to parade in the Triangle at 10 a.in. it was decided that no collection be made in the hall during the service, but that a box be placed at the entrance and any amount placed there would be handed over to the Returned Soldiers’ Club for the purposes of assisting distressed soldiers. Church choirs are to attend the service, which will be followed by a short ceremony at the Memorial Domain gates. Any persons wishing to place wreaths on the gates are asked to bring them to tne Town Hall, from where the Guides will carry them to the gates, where they will hand them to the returned soldiers to place on the gates. I POPPY DAY Puppies were sold in Palea on Saturday by members of the Anglican Girls’ Club, who took over this work from Airs. Peterson, who was unable to carry through her task on account of being indisposed. During the day the girls achieved their part quite successfully, although in the evening there were very few iu the town, the cold wind and rain keeping people inside. However, the puppy sellers spent a very busy time for a short while after the picture theatre concluded the evening programme. BOROUGH AND HARBOUR BOARD ELECTIONS No opposition was received for the position of Alayor of Patca, Air. F. Rainsbottom being elected once again, being his third election to office, taking office first in 1928. Nine nominations have been received for the si> seats on the Borough Council, how ever, and there is no apathy in the attitude of citizens towards the election. For the borough representatives on the Hospital and Harbour Boards, the returning officer, Air. L. W. Austin, has received nominations, lour for the two vacancies on the Harbour Board, and one for the one on the Hospital Board. Air. A. T. Christensen is therefore re-elected to the scat on the Hospital Board. Nominations for the Borough Council are as follow:—Charles Henry Carey, Adulph Theodor Christensen. James Haworth, Cecil Reginald Honeyfield, Francis Stuart McKenna, Frank Naismith, Ernest Papps, George Per cival Pettigrew, Thomas James Clarence Scott. These include the whole of the old council, with the addition of three, J. Haworth, F. AlcKcnna and E. Papps. Nominations for the Harbour Board for the two representatives for the Patca Borough aud the Wavcrley Town Board left by the resignation of Messrs. A. H. Hodge and A. N. Wil liams, are as follow: William Back, Frank Parsons, George Percival Pettigrew and William Herbert Southcornbc. Election of these will take place on Wednesday. Alay 1. E. Death, R. Castle (Hawera). A suggestion was made that th" insurance levy be raised from 2s to 4s. It was decided that instead of increasing the levy the committee could not recognise claims for massage treatment. This would result in a saving of £4O a season.
