THE LABOUR VICTORY. MAJORITY FOR SECESSION. Received April 9, 11.55 p.m. PERTH, April 9. The election returns are incomplete out on the morning figures the state of the parties is:— Labour 26 Country Party .. 12 Nationalists 1(1 Doubtful 2 The Attorney-General, Mr. Parker, was defe; ted, and the Premier, Sir James Mitchell, appears to have lo*c his scat. The Labourite, Mr. Needham, won Perth from the Nationalist, Mr. Mann. The Labour Leader, Mr. Scab* dan. appears safe, hut his party v likely to lose Pilbarra to the Nationalists. The secession vote was:— Yps 10,406 No 5205 I he vote to consider an alteration to the Commonwealth Constitution was: Yes 6336 No .. 9168 SECESSION ISSUE MR. LYONS DISAPPOINTED Received April 9, 11.55 p.m. CANBERRA, April 9. The Prime Minister, Mr. Lyons, expresses disappointment at the result of
the Westralian referendum. He says that the people declined to listen to reason and are determined to vent their feelings on the eastern States. A convention will be held, nevertheless, to consider the best means of helping the various States. Westralia’s part therein will depend upon herself.
