PERSONAL. Miss Freda Hemingway and Miss Huston have returned from a holiday at Matamata. Miss Taylor returned on Thursday from a holiday in the South Island. Miss Neville England is visting her relatives, Mrs. Mitcalfc and Mrs. Goo. Daniell, of Wavcrley. Mrs. Walton leaves on Monday to meet her son John, who arrives from England by the s.s. Rangitata. Mrs. Harris and her sons motored to Wellington on Thursday for a few days. GOLF AND TENNIS. No doubt the weather will be the «ie ciding factor between the choice of games to-day. Patea holds its official closing of tennis and at Wavcrley the golf season will open. There will be a tournament at the courts and' the afternoon tea will be dispensed by the bachelors. WHENUAKURA HALL FUNDS. A euchre party in aid of the Whenunkura Hall funds was hold this week, when there was a fair attendance. Mrs. P. A. Bourke and Mrs. E. Cousins were the prize-winners. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. There was a very large attendance of institute members on Friday afternoon at the first meeting of the financial year. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute song, “Ode to Friendship.” Mrs. Walton, president, welcomed new and old members. The hostesses were Mesdames Hunger, Ingley, Armstrong, Corbett. Hall, Prescott and Miss Sheilds. A very interesting demonstration of raffia and cane work was given by Miss Elmslie and Miss Paulger, of the Wavcrley Girls’ Club. There were eight entries in the. pikelet competition. CROQUET. McLeod cup match. A team of four players from the Patea Croquet Club visited Wanganui to play for the McLeod Cup with the Wanganui Croquet Club. After a most enjoyable match Wanganui proved the winners by 79 points to 59. The visitors were, hospitably entertained by the Wanganui players. The following wen* the scores, Wanganui players being mentioned first: Mrs Jarvis scratch, I, v. Mr. Gibbs, scratch, 26; Mrs. Brass, 2A, 26, v. Mrs Masters, 11, 12; Mrs. Blennerhassett, 3A, 26, v. Mrs. Glcnny, 3|, 2; Mrs Price, 4L 26, v. Mrs. Gibbs, 5, 19. Other members played friendly games.
