OBJECT OF PEDIGREE

1 SOME CLASSIC CATTLE BLENDS Fat slock shows have, in recent yeais shown very clearly that in order to obtain the greatest perfection of form it is necessary to cross two different type of breeds. The object or pedigree, which is the keeping of records of purity of blood amj descent, is to obtain that impressiveness from the sire a« the result of breeding with a fixed purpose in view. It is not. therefore, altogether surprising that when tho crossing of two distinct breeds is attempted tho result often proves much more satisfactory as Agards the combination of the most desirable qualities and be«idcs, as can be, seen at any of the I leading fat stock shows, is often productive of very high-class animals. Apart from that, however, it is r.ecc*‘•ary to look at tho subject of crossbreeding from the point of view of the oodigree breeder. Breeders now fully realise that if they wish to obtain a good homo demand for their rams and bulls they must bo prepared to show what the use of their stock for crossing purposes can accomplish. The Angus Shorthorn and Shorthorn-Galloway arc both popular and well-known crosses, but there is still room for experiment with other breeds that have a wide reputation in their own districts for beef qualities.
