SLIMMING IN JAPAN
THOSE SLENDER LINES NO DIETING Fat is regarded almost as a crime in Japan, and for this reason the Japanese lady has learned many useful points in the matter of reducing. One of the main methods used by the Japanese woman in keeping slim is frequent bathing. She who iinds her hips commencing to become more than gracefully rounded takes frequent hot baths, followed by brisk massage. Western doctors, however, do not favour too many hot baths. Another thing which helps to account for the slender silhouette of the Japanese lady is her custom of sleeping on a haul bed. This braces the muscles, and keeps the spine supple, so that lumps of fat do not form around the neck, arms and shoulders. Then, too, she obeys that important rule of nature of not drinking with meals. Water she drinks in largo quantities, but neither this nor hoc countless cups of tea is ever taken with solid food. >so. in spite of her staple diet of rice, considered as one of the most fattening of substances, the Japanese woman manages to retain the- graceful lines of youth.
