TRAINING AT HAWERA THURSDAY'S OPERATIONS AGA KHAN FOR ELLERSLIE Training operations for the Hawcri horses racing at Auckland and Feild Ing were carried out on Thursda; morning under fine weather conditions The plough track was generally use* and was in excellent order. Special interest, writes “Limited’ in the Taranaki Herald, was taken ii the gallop of the Auckland Eastc Handicap candidate Aga Khan, Ag: Khan had as companions Awaken an' Chief Line. The trio set out at fast clip, reverse way round, to rut seven furlongs. After a couple o

furlongs, Awaken found the pace set too fust and lost her inside position, dropping back a couple of lengths at the three furlongs. Aga Khan and Chief Lino reached the half-mile in 50 l-ssocs., the six furlongs m 1.16 1-5 secs., and finished uf> the seven together in 1.30 2-ssees., with Awaken some lengths back. Before leaving for his last tr±p to Auckland Aga Khar registered a farter gallop over the sine course. His trained has been on the easy side with him lately, but a couple of sharpening-up gallops shoul see him strip as lit as hands can make him. Chief Line hung on well, registering quite a good performance. Awa ken found the early pace too solid, bu’ finished on well Diagano and the maiden St. Clara were given steady half-pace workovc r a couple of circuits each. Two other Auckland candidates in Carfex and Attentive also worked the reverse way. .Jumping off together, the pair occupied just on 51secs., to reach the halt' mile, taking 1.17 to ruu the six furlongs in 1.31 j, with Carfex ge iag the better and a half length t* l front. Carfex went well, pulling up in good shape, and his race at {Stratford has worked some improvement in him. Attentive is not a brilliant track worker, but his honesty is undoubted and ho almost invariably runs a good race. Gibraltar, who is engaged at FeOdiifg, went sluggishly over the first pan of his seven furlongs, occupying 1.34 for the journey. Davistock and Miss Cavendish both having raced at Stratford have been indulged in light exercise since and should be nicely freshened up fo r their Feilding engagements. Richfield is rapidly improving from his disability and was given a sprat over three furlongs, whch he accom plished comfortably in 3SJsecs. Providing he makes the anticipated pro gress, Richfield will complete his engagements at Feilding. K. Brough’s two-year-old Rapper sprinted five furlongs on the grass — the reverse way in 1.3 j. Chief Link (W. Grindlay), gave another capital exhibition over *he schooling hurdles, jumping six fence!? like an old hand. eSo far Chief Link has only taken his fences slowly and interest wiR attach to his perforiv mice when he is asked to race at them For a beginner nothing has shaped be* ter on the local tracks. Owing to his disappointing displays so far this scas v n, Copoy is unlikely to make the trip north for the Steeple chase. G. Duncan, Fryer’s apprentice, is mentioned as Aga Khan’s rider in the Easter Handicap and is to ride Carfex in the President's Handicap. Unless plans are altered, K. Voitre is to ride at the Wairarapa Easter meeting.
