WOMEN’S INSTITUTIONS
MEETING AT WAVERLEY The annual meeting of the Wavcrley Women’s Institute was held in the Anglican Sunday School Hall ou Friday, March 10. Mrs. Salter presided over a good attendance. The first part of the afternoon was devoted to business, the minutes of tho last aunual meeting were road, and confirmed, and the aunual report and balance-sheet were presented by the secretary —the membership has increased from 26 in June last to 41 at the end of February. Many interesting and. helpful demonstrations have been given, and a splendid travel talk on Africa by Mrs. (Dr.) Duncan. The ‘balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £1 3s 6d after ail expenses had been met. The committee elected for the coming year is: Mesdames Boyer, Cox, Hickford,. Walker, Stewart, Salter, and Misses McMeckin, H. Wall, Edwards, and Adlam. Arrangements were finalised for a small display by the Institute at Waverlcy Show. The winner of the points prize for the year’s competitions was Mrs. Sutherland. Much appreciated musical items were given by Misses Anderson and Wall and a very dainty afternoon tea was served. Votes ol thanks were accorded the retiring president, Mrs. Salter, and also the tellers, Mesdames Bee re and Pepper. The singing of the National Anthem brought an interesting meeting to a close. KOHI The Kohi Women’s Institute held its first annual meeting last week. Mrs. Mountfort presided, over a very good attendance, and the report and bal-ance-sheet showed a most progressive year’s work. In moving their adoption, the president spoke of the increased interest and activities of the institute and congratulated members on the results. The following ladies were elected to the committee:—Mesdames Mountfort (president), W. Morrison, E. Hone, J. Bourke, Magan, Waterland, C. OUiver and W. Olliver i and Miss F. Powell. The delegates , chosen to represent Kohi at the Fed- ■ eration meeting at Wanganui were . Mrs. Mountfort and Miss Powell. At the conclusion of the business, an amusing competition was held, Miss Powell being the winner. Mrs. McCall and Miss J. Johnston were hostesses for the evening and served a dainty supper. The singing of tho National Anthem brought the first annual meeting to a close. MANGAWEKA The annual meeting of the Mangaweka Women’s Institute was held in the Oddfellow’s Hall, the president, Mrs. Pairman, being in the chair. There was a splendid attendance of members and much interest was taken in the proceedings. Mesdames Pair-
man and Ginnauc were chosen as delegates to the federation meeting at Wanganui on March. 22. The first annual report and balance-sheet were presented by the secretary, and proved the institute to be in a very satisfactory position. The membership has increased from 62 in July last to 96 at the close of the year, and the credit balance is £3 odd. The following ladies were lected as committee for the coming year: Mesdames Pairman (president), A. Bailey, Ginnane, Gardner, Jarrett, H. Loye, Moyle, Oulsman, Weymouth, Watson and Misses Joan Dickson and Enid Deighton. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the tellers, Misses Dawkins and Knight, the auditor, Miss Dawkins, and to the retiring committee and sub-committees. Programme for next month includes a demonstration of poker work, competition for prettiest bowl of flowers, a roll call “The household duty I most dislike.” Members are asked to bring their potatoes for the Crawford Shield competition to the April meeting.
