MANGAWEKA

SPORTS MEETING. The twenty-ninth annual sports meeting of the Mangaweka and District Athletic Club, was held on the Recreation Grounds on Monday, January 23. Cloudy, but fine weather prevailed and a largo number of visitors were present from all parts of the district. A beautiful native bush surrounds rhe grounds and this proved an idea spot for many family picnics. Events followed one another with very little delay and many keen contests were witnessed in most events. In the evening a very successful dance was held in tho Oddfellows’ Hall. Tho floor was w’cll packed with dancers, visitors being present from Marton, Taihape, Wanganui, Hunterville and Rangiwahia. During the evening the president of thc Mangaweka Sports Club, Mr. Walter P. Shaw, thanked tho gathering for the splendid manner in which they had supported the club and presented the various trophies which were won during the day. An excellent supper was provided, and the music, supplied by thc “Melody Boys” Orchestra, of Taihapc, was much appreciated. Mr. P. Riley proved a most efficient M.C. This event, between the presidents of the Ohingaiti and Mangaweka Sports Clubs respectively, proved very interesting, and caused a great deal of excitement. The stake was a very substantial one.
