The English cricketers commenced their first match in Tasmania at Launceston to-day in fine weather on a true wicket. Wyatt won the toss and opened with Sutcliffe. The Yorkshireman batted brightly, scoring 101 in one hour six minutes. He hit two sixers and six fours. Pataudi played attractive cricket, scoring a century in 139 minutes. He hit eight fours. The total reached 300 in 223 minutes. Less than half an hour later 50 had been added, the day’s total being three for 395. Scores were:— ENGLAND. First Innings.
