WHALE OIL PRODUCTION

PURCHASE BY UNILEVER. Received Dec. 7, 10.5 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 7. Unilever Limited have purchased the whole of the 1932-33 season’s pro duction of whale oil, estimated to cost £3,500,000. The news is welcome, as last year many whaling companies were unable to negotiate sales owing to over-production in 1930-31. The price of oil for the present season is about £l3 per ton, which should yield the companies a small profit if the catches in the Antarctic arc up to the estimate.
